Health Canada's Environmental Health Program has information about different environmental health risks and ways to reduce the risk to harmful chemicals and pollutants.

You can visit this website - https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/air-quality.html to find more information about indoor and outdoor air quality.

You can find a brochure with 10 helpful tips to keeping your home healthy here - https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/campaigns/healthy-home/ten-tips.html

Radon is the number 1 cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. It is a radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. It is invisible, odourless, and tasteless. When radon is released from the ground into the outdoor air, it is diluted and is not a concern. However, in enclosed spaces, like homes, it can accumulate to high levels and become a health risk. Every home will have radon in it. The only way to know how much radon you have, is to test. You can find additional information here – https://canada.ca/radon

Our program is in the final stages of creating an Environmental Health Children's Activity Book for ages 7 to 9. The activity book follows a story line and has many interactive activities. If you would like to pilot the activity book with your class, or have any further questions, please send us an email at ehp-pse.ab@hc-sc.gc.ca.
