SEATCA / SWATCA 2022 - Southern Alberta Teachers' Convention

The last 5 years of teaching before retirement can be stressful and burn a teacher out. But, students deserve vibrant and passionate teachers. Teachers often start detaching, feeling invisible and irrelevant as decision-makers sometimes no longer look to them as part of the team moving forward. This workshop will take teachers through activities that will inspire them to engage in critical reflection of their strengths as a teacher, both in terms of their curricular subject and soft skills. They will identify passions about teaching they took for granted or let go dormant. They will look at how, perhaps, they have let their skills and passions dwindle over time. Finally, teachers will design a plan to increase skillsets, re-engage in learning, and identify how they can parlay their strengths and passions as a teacher into an exciting post-teaching career and lifestyle. The goal is to inspire teachers to recommit to teaching, use the last 5 years to consciously hone skills, and get excited about their future.
