Feedback form is now closed.
Place value concepts form the foundation for most of the math covered in the primary grades and students need to thoroughly understand them with manipulative work, engaging games and meaningful practice activities, not just paper and pencil practice. In this workshop games and strategies using cards, dice, place value dice and number lines will be taught for working on: understanding 10, 100, 1 000's, comparing numbers as greater than/less than, composing and decomposing numbers, developing the foundation for rounding and expanding numbers, using number lines, identifying specific place value. The handout will provide game instructions with variations, gameboards and concept skill checklists to help the teacher assess student learning. Samples of student work will be shared throughout the session along with teaching tips and management strategies. Participants will be able to apply what they learn immediately back in their classes.
